(HT-207) Zinc borate(ZB411)
 
Description
4ZnO•B2O3H2O (ZB411)  is a kind of high heat resistant zinc borate compound with a higher initial dehydration temperature (> 410℃). The ratio of zinc /boron is about 4:1, and the ZnO content is as high as 79%, ZB411 is widely used as flame retardants, smoke suppressants and vulcanization activator in plastics and rubber industries, especially recommended in polymer systems requiring very high processing temperatures.
When used in plastics, ZB411 can not only partially substitute the antimony trioxide but also have a synergistic effect with bromine flame retardants; In the application of glass fiber reinforced PA66 and PBT, ZB411 can improve the flame retardant performance, significantly reduce the cost and reduce combustion smoke generation; in rubbers, ZB411 can completely substitute ZnO and also partially substitute the Antimony trioxide, accelerating vulcanization and obtaining excellent flame retardant properties.

● ZB411 should be dried before using if the water content exceeding

Conclusion
1. Flame retardancy: to reach UL-94 (1.6mm) V-0 when loading 23% Bromine/ATO/ZB411 (19:3:1) in 30% glass fiber reinforced PA66 resin, while loading 26% with the formula of Bromine/ATO (19:7).
2. Mechanical Properties of glass fiber reinforced PA66 with the formula of Bromine/ATO/ZB411 are a little lower than that the formula of Bromine-ATO compounds.
3. Compared to the Bromine-ATO compounds, the CTI of glass fiber reinforced PA66 with Bromine/ATO/ZB411compounds is about 50V higher, while the GWIT is 40℃ lower.

Conclusion
1. Flame retardancy: when loading 14% Bromine/ATO (10.5:3.5) to reach UL-94V-0, while only loading 12% Bromine/ATO/ZB411 (9:1.5:1.5) to reach the same level.
2. Mechanical Properties of glass fiber reinforced PA66 with the formula of Bromine/ATO/ZB411 have no significant difference.
3. Compared to the Bromine-ATO compounds, the CTI of glass fiber reinforced PA66 with Bromine/ATO/ZB411is similar but the GWIT is 20℃ higher.
